He is sent to Coventry, and is in danger of dying from depression; Maturin makes him his "loblolly boy". (Master & Commander)

Transferred to Leopard after he kills the seaman Waller, and from there to the ship of the line Conqueror, in which he serves at Trafalgar. Asks to return to Drinkwater after Trafalgar and is accepted. (1805)
In Baltic Mission he accompanies Drinkwater on the expedition to spy on the signing of the Treaty of Tilsit, and is killed by Santhonax.
