Britannia Rules (1977)
My favourite history of the period when Britain came to dominate the seas of the world. By C. Northcote Parkinson, author of the Nathianiel Drinkwater novels.
The Frigates (1970)
James Henderson's specialised study of the role played by the most glamorous of the vessels engaged in the wars of 1793-1815.
Frigates of the Napoleonic Wars (1998)
Another study of frigates of the period - one which concentrates more on technical details of design and construction - by Robert Gardiner.
The Age of Nelson (1996)
Devoted to detailed studies of the battles of the period by David Lyon.
Nelson and the Nile (1998)
Illustrated study of the campaign in the Eastern Mediterranean that culminated at Aboukir Bay by Brian Lavery.
Napoleon's Lost Fleet ()
Subtitled Bonaparte, Nelson, and the Battle of the Nile. An account of the same campaign by Laura Foreman and Ellen Blue Phillips.
Nelson against Napoleon (1998)
Robert Gardiner and David Lyons tell the story from the Battle of the Nile to the (first) Battle of Copenhagen.
Every Man Will Do His Duty (1997)
Edited by Dean King with substantial contribution from John Hattendorf, this is a collection of first hand accounts of the period.
Hornblower's Navy (1998)
Coffee table book on the navy in Hornblower's time by Stephen Pope. Rather slim.
The Real Hornblower (1998)
A biography of Admiral Sir James Gordon, who the author, Bryan Perrett, claims was the real-life model for Hornblower.
